URANUS
Uranus’ characteristics
Uranus is an ice giant it comes under this category as most of the planet is made up of icy materials. These materials include, water, methane and ammonia. There is a small rocky core at the centre of the planet. Uranus has an atmosphere that is made up of hydrogen, helium and a small amount of methane. Uranus has 27 moons and has faint rings. The rings closest to the planet are narrow and dark whereas the rings further from the planet are bright and colourful. Uranus’ average temperature is -216 degrees Celsius.
Uranus’ place in the solar system
Uranus’ circumference is 159, 354.1 km. It is the seventh planet from the Sun and is amazingly double the distance from the Sun of the sixth planet Saturn. It’s distance from the sun is 2, 873, 550, 000 km. This measurement equals 19.208 AU.
Uranus’ spin and orbit
Uranus only takes 17 hours to spin around on itself and is therefore Uranus days are 7 hours shorter than Earth days. Uranus takes a huge 84 Earth years to spin in its orbit around the Sun.
