NEPTUNE
Neptune’s characteristics
Neptune is an ice giant and is therefore a sister to Uranus. The planet is made up of a thick combination of water, ammonia and methane. It is possible that is has a solid core. Neptune’s atmosphere is also the same as Uranus containing hydrogen, helium and methane. Neptune has 13 moons with 1 moon that is still yet to be confirmed. Neptune also has six rings. Neptune’s temperature is -214 degrees Celsius.
Neptune’s place in the solar system
Neptune has a circumference of 154, 704.6 km, similar to Uranus. Uranus is the eighth and furthest planet from the Sun and is a huge 4, 501, 000, 000 km from the Sun. This is 30 times the distance of the Earth from the Sun. This is equivalent to 30.087 AU.
Neptune’s spin and orbit
Neptune only takes 16 Earth hours to spin around on itself, therefore a Neptune day is 8 hours shorter than an Earth day is. Neptune also spins around earth in its orbit, this orbit
takes 60, 190 Earth days which is equivalent to 165 Earth years.
