EARTH
Earth’s characteristics
Similar to Mercury and Venus Earth is a terrestrial planet with
a solid surface. Earth however has many other features on its surface, some of
these include; mountains, valleys, canyons, plains and ocean. Earth’s atmosphere is the only planet’s atmosphere that is breathable for humans whilst it also protects the surface from meteoroids. This atmosphere is made up of nitrogen, oxygen and a small amount of other elements. Earth has one moon. Earth has a temperature range of -89.2 degrees Celsius and 70.7 degrees Celsius.
Earth’s place in the solar system
Earth’s circumference is 40,030.2 km, only slightly larger than Venus. Earth is the third furthest planet from the Sun and is 149, 600, 00 km. This equals 1 AU, an astronomical unit (AU) was created as a unit of measurement by measuring the distance between Earth and the Sun.
Earth’s spin and orbit
Earth spins around on itself and this takes 24 hours, this is one Earth day. Earth also orbits around the Sun like all other planets, this takes Earth 365 days, this is equivalent to one Earth year.
