JUPITER
Jupiter’s characteristics
Jupiter is classed as a gas-giant this is because Jupiter does
not have a solid surface. Jupiter is made up mostly of hydrogen and helium. Jupiter has 50 moons whose existence is confirmed there is also another 17 moons that are waiting to be confirmed. In addition to its moons, Jupiter also has a faint ring system around it. Jupiter’s average temperature is -148 degrees Celsius.
Jupiter’s place in the solar system
Jupiter is the biggest planet in the atmosphere with a huge
circumference of 439,263.8 km. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the
Sun and although it is next to Earth it is quite a lot further away. Jupiter is 778, 330, 000 km from the Sun. This is equal to 5.203 AU.
Jupiter’s spin and orbit
Jupiter spins faster than the Earth, is spins around itself in only 10 hours. However it takes quite a long time to spin (orbit) around the Sun. Jupiter’s orbit takes 4, 333 Earth days which is equivalent to 12 Earth years.
